What is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is removal of the tissue within the pulp of the tooth. After tissue is removed it is filled with materials that seal off the root canal from its supporting structures. Root canal treatment may take one or two appointments. The first appointment involves removal of the tissue and placement of medication and a temporary restoration. At the second visit the canals are sealed. Following root canal therapy, an onlay or crown are usually placed over the tooth to protect it from breakage.
